With the NFL season almost at its halfway point, there are two big questions that Patriots fans want answered. First, who is going to start at quarterback next week? Second, when will New England fans/Massachusetts sports bettors be able to bet on their beloved Patriots?
The first question requires knowing what is going on in Bill Belichick’s head, and good luck with that. The second question, when will Massachusetts sports betting launch, is one that we may be able to give some insight into.
When Will Massachusetts Sports Betting Launch?
All indications are that Massachusetts is pushing for an early 2023 launch. There have been some rumblings that late 2022 could still happen, but it is likely wishful thinking.
Word from meetings on September 8th of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) said that reports of an early NFL season launch were incorrect. Rather that a tentative timeline for retail sportsbooks to open would be January 2023, and mobile sports betting would start in March 2023.
Karen Wells, the Executive MGC, said, “This is not a definitive timeline.” With the proposed timeline approaching, though, the question remains when will Massachusetts sports betting get official launch dates announced by the MGC?
What Sports Betting Apps Will be Available in Massachusetts?
Anytime a state legalizes sports betting, competition between sports betting operators to get their license is fierce. Every state is different and allows a different number of different types of licenses.
Massachusetts has three license types, retail licenses for casinos and racing/simulcast venues and the third being online/mobile licenses. These are the operators that have submitted license interest surveys to the MGC.

Place Your Patriots Super Bowl Bet
Wrapping everything up, just like no one knows if either Patriots quarterback will start and play all four quarters, no one knows when Patriots fans will be able to bet on their Super Bowl chances. That doesn’t mean predictions based on evidence can’t be made.
Expect Mac Jones to start this week and play all four quarters if he is healthy; teams do not give up on first-round quarterbacks in one year. Especially not when said quarterback took them to the playoffs last season.
Expect that, while the Patriot’s Super Bowl Odds aren’t great, New England bettors will be able to make any and all Super Bowl wagers they want to in Massachusetts. This is not an exact launch date but rather a prediction that mobile betting will be off and running in the commonwealth before the Pats shock the world again with a surprise Super Bowl run.
