The Jets take on the Patriots once again, and the stakes are high. Tommy Burch breaks down the Patriots Week 11 game, and what benefits each team’s chances.
Patriots Week 11 Preview – Turbine Takeover?
The Jets finally get their long-awaited rematch against the Patriots after a grueling week 8 loss. The Patriots pulled away with a 22-17 win in a divisional statement game, with Mac Jones earning back his starting role with a mediocre performance.
The Jets, regardless of the loss, sit above the Patriots in the AFC East with a record of 6-3 while the Patriots are stuck in last at 5-4. However, with a Patriots win, the standings will shake up, and we may see the Jets at the bottom once again.
Patriots Mania – Will the Bye Week Help?
Luckily for the Patriots Week 11, despite Mac Jones and his below-average appearance against the Jets, Zach Wilson just played worse. His three interceptions were made on poor decisions and bad passes, forcing his team to lose the game. In order for the Patriots to win in a convincing fashion, they need more consistent quarterback play.
Thankfully in their last game against the Colts, Jones managed to mitigate the turnovers, playing slow and smart on the offensive side of the ball. He completed two-thirds of his passes for just under 150 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions.
Not what you want from a first-round pro bowl quarterback, but he played exactly how he was asked as the defense and special teams dominated the game.
However, the special teams unit may take a hit with Jake Bailey has not practiced this week, is listed as doubtful. A first-team All-Pro in 2020, Bailey’s loss is going to hurt the Pats’ special teams unit significantly, who does not have another punter on their roster with two kickers that have very little professional and college punting experience.
This could be the turning point of the Patriots Week 11 game if they cannot manage to stay on track and keep finding the first down marker.
J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets!
Regardless of their loss, the Jets are the easy favorites for this game. They just came off of a huge win against the Buffalo Bills, forcing 2 Josh Allen interceptions with one in clutch time. This team has something special going on, and they are rolling forward.
What worries me about the Patriots is that their ceiling is too low. The Jets play down to worse teams and play up to better ones, indicated by their statement win. If the Jets are hot and have momentum, they are one of the better teams in the league.
The last time they played, James Robinson was a new addition to the roster and Michael Carter was finally getting starting reps again. They were just starting to find their momentum, which they succeeded in doing with the two combining for 124 yards and a touchdown last game.
If Zach plays within his bounds, the rushing game is established, and the defense plays as good as usual, this game should be a Jets win.
