Boston fans have been busy this afternoon. Both the Bruins and Patriots were slated to start their games this Sunday at 1 PM. As of the writing of this article, the Patriots were up 47-13 on the New York Jets, and the Bruins just completed their game to the tune of a 4-3 victory.

Bruins Jump Out the Gate Quick

The Bruins jumped out to an early lead with two markers within the first four minutes of the game. Brad Marchand scored just 28 seconds into the game on a marvelous passing play from Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak. That goal was quickly followed nearly three minutes later by a goal from Derek Forbort, assisted by Brad Marchand and Connor Clifton.

The rest of the first period would consist of some big physical plays, until with 3:48 left in the period, the Bruins added another one. This time the goal came via the powerplay and David Pastrnak.

San Jose would respond quickly with a goal just 32 seconds later from Jasper Weatherby, the second of his NHL career.

After all of that commotion, the Bruins would exit the third period with a 3-1 lead.

Middling Middle Frame

The second period was rather boring in comparison to the two other periods, however it did not go scoreless, as Jake Debrusk would score his second goal of the season nearing the six minute mark of the period.

After allowing four goals just 26 minutes into the game, the Sharks decided to pull Adin Hill and put James Reimer in net. From that point in the game, the Sharks breathed new life.

The Bruins would still outshoot the Sharks in the second frame by a tally of 11-5.

Third Period Let Down?

Heading into the third period with a 4-1 lead, the Bruins felt that victory in the Saturday matinee on home ice was secured. That seemed to be the case for much of the period, as the Bruins continued to win more faceoffs and get more shots on net, however, James Reimer was a brick wall since entering into the game.

A late marker from Tomas Hertl would cut the Bruins lead to just two goals with 6:41 remaining, and then just 1 minute and 49 seconds later, Timo Meier would cut the lead to just one after scoring a goal that would later be held up by review.

From that point on, the Bruins put the game into shutdown mode, instilling their stingy defense that consisted of physicality on zone entries, and dumping the puck into the Sharks zone whenever they got the opportunity.

The Sharks would try to push late with the net empty, but Linus Ullmark would shut the door, getting his second straight victory with the Bruins.

Bruins vs Sharks

After the victory, the Bruins pushed their record to 3-1-0 on the season, tied for second in the Atlantic Division with Buffalo. Up next for the Bruins will be a game in Florida taking on the Panthers who are undefeated so far on the young season, with a record of 5-0. They will have a tough test against the Cats who have a +13 goal differential in five games.
